On 10–11 June, First Lady of Finland Suzanne Innes-Stubb welcomed First Lady of Kenya Rachel Ruto to Helsinki as part of the Kenyan presidential couple’s State Visit to Finland.

The two-day programme reflected the shared commitment of the First Ladies to promoting inclusive community development, expanding opportunities for women and girls, and strengthening public health.

Mrs Innes-Stubb and Mrs Ruto visited the Oodi Helsinki Central Library, an innovative public space that combines library services with creative workshops, co-working areas, family facilities and community spaces. During the visit, the First Ladies learned how accessible public institutions can support lifelong learning, creativity and civic engagement.

The programme also included visits to the Women’s Health Hub Finland and Revvity, where the First Ladies explored innovations in women’s health, newborn screening and diagnostic technologies. The discussions highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and accessible healthcare in improving health outcomes for women and children.

Reflecting on the visit, First Lady of Kenya Rachel Ruto noted:

“Investing in women’s health strengthens families, empowers communities, and creates a better future for the next generation.”

As part of the programme, the First Ladies also visited Supercell, where they discussed expanding opportunities for women and girls in technology and the gaming industry. The visit underscored the importance of equipping girls with digital skills and encouraging greater female participation in innovation and technology.
