First Ladies of Türkiye and Serbia met in Belgrade to strengthen cultural ties between their countries

On 11 October 2024, the First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye, Emine Erdoğan, visited the Turkish Maarif Foundation’s kindergarten in Belgrade, together with the Spouse of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Tamara Vučić.

In particular, during their visit, the First Ladies of Türkiye and Serbia came to one of the kindergarten classes and played games with the local children. In their turn, children performed a show for the honoured guests, featuring Serbian folk dances and songs.

‘While the children are prepared for the future with a modern education understanding, big contributions are made to their personal and social developments in an environment full of affection. The joy of our children, who have heartily welcomed us, has made our day. With the belief that children’s light is the most valuable tie that will ensure the further strengthening of the friendship between our countries, I thank all who have contributed,’ – said Mrs Erdoğan.

Tamara Vučić, the spouse of the President of the Republic of Serbia, highlighted the remarkable talent of the children, as well as the commitment and passion of the educators and teachers of the Turkish special educational institution in Belgrade.

Later, the First Ladies also visited the ETNOlogy Festival, held under the patronage of Tamara Vučić, where Türkiye was the focus country, showcasing its rich cultural heritage. Mrs Erdoğan expressed her joy at being part of this festival.

‘I would like to thank my friend Tamara Vučić for hosting such a meaningful event and welcoming us with warmth,’ – noted the First Lady of Türkiye.

Both Tamara Vučić and Emine Erdoğan participated in the Fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, held on 12 September 2024 in Kyiv. In particular, Mrs Vučić was the speaker at the panel ‘Dialogues with First Ladies’, while Emine Erdoğan was among those who sent a video message to the participants of the event.

Earlier this week, Erdoğan met with the First Lady of Albania, Armanda Begaj. They discussed the challenges of the environment, education and healthcare, as well as other issues. Mrs Begaj is also a member of the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen Global Platform community.

The Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen is an international annual event initiated by Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska in 2021. It is the meeting that brings together First Ladies and Gentlemen to address global challenges. The 2024 Summit was focused on the issue of child protection and ensuring a safe future for them.
