On 24 November, the First Lady of Türkiye, Emine Erdoğan, met with the First Lady of the Republic of Korea, Kim Hea Kyung, as part of the official visit of the South Korean presidential couple to Ankara.

The meeting took place at the Presidential National Library, where the First Ladies exchanged views on cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. Emine Erdoğan and Kim Hea Kyung explored selected works from a South Korean textbook that highlight cultural affinities between the two nations.

They also visited the “Anatolians: Sof’s Timeless Journey” exhibition – a state project aimed at reviving the historic Ankara sof fabric. The initiative brings traditional weaving back into contemporary practice thanks to the craftsmanship of Turkish artisans and the coordinated efforts of national cultural institutions.

During the visit, Mrs Kim Hea Kyung signed the Global Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration. Launched in 2017, this project makes a significant contribution to environmental protection and the development of a circular economy. Mrs Emine Erdoğan has been actively promoting the initiative, including during her meeting with the Pope. More information is available in the linked material.

“I wish that this meaningful visit will strengthen the friendship and cooperation between our countries,” wrote Mrs Erdoğan following the meeting.

The Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen Global Platform highlights that such initiatives demonstrate the power of cultural exchange and joint social initiatives in deepening international ties.
