During the Fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv on September 12, an address from the H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden was presented online.

In particular, the Swedish Queen sent her greetings to all participants of the Fourth Summit, including First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, all Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen presented at the event, dedicated to the vital issue of child safety.

‘As the founder of the organisation World Childhood Foundation, the rights of children, particularly their safety, hold a special place in my heart. The children of Ukraine have borne a heavy burden during this horrific, ongoing war. Many have been killed or wounded, displaced from their homes and, in countless cases, separated from their families and caregivers,‘ – noted the H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden.

According to Her Majesty, the World Childhood Foundation has been working alongside civil society organisations in Ukraine since 2001 to protect children, promote foster care as an important alternative to institutional care, and focus especially on vulnerable groups.

‘I am deeply grateful to you, Madam Zelenska, for prioritising this critical issue [child safety – ed.]. I have immense respect for your work and the extraordinary courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people during these challenging times,‘ – stated the Swedish Queen.

The H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden also expressed her regret about not being able to join the Fourth Summit in person while promising to support the children of Ukraine through her foundation. ‘I wholeheartedly hope that this summit will raise greater awareness of the importance of child safety and lead to meaningful action,‘ – concluded Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden in her message.
